Whitten Oval holds a special place in the heart of Michael Ashton, a Bulldogs man of over 50 years.

Currently living in Barmera, an agricultural town 220km north-east of Adelaide, Michael spent many a windy weekend at the suburban ground watching the Bulldogs together with his beloved uncle Ronnie Ashton who first introduced him to the Club more than half a century ago.

A place filled with so many memories, it was only fitting for Ashton to create a lifelong legacy for his family with the purchase of five seats shoulder to shoulder in the EJ Whitten Stand at Whitten Oval.

According to the family, Ronnie Ashton (who passed away earlier this year) was only a little man but had a huge heart and made an enormous impact on his family.  He will always be remembered as not only the best uncle ever, but also a die-hard Bulldogs fan who loved watching every game and enjoying a beer or two.

For Michael, purchasing a seat in the EJ Whitten Stand at Whitten Oval in his Uncle Ronnie’s name was a perfect way for the family to remember their wonderful uncle who was so special to them.  Also leaving their mark with seats beside Ronnie in the stand forever, his devoted wife, Elsie, 13 year-old grandson Gede Marsden and Michael’s two year old daughter Molly.

The family can credit their love of the club to their uncle; Gede who loves his footy thanks to his best buddy Ronnie, was a Bulldogs supporter right from the beginning as was Molly, who attended her first game when she was just nine months old.

And the family’s message to other members and supporters, “make sure you support your club and never give up supporting!“

So when the day finally comes and the Bulldogs bring home that next piece of Silverware, the Ashton family will be making a toast to their Uncle Ronnie.
