Triple Premiership full-back Matthew Scarlett is a man of few words, but the Bulldogs backs will hang off every one eager to learn.
Known as a man who doesn’t waste words, former Geelong Premiership player Matthew Scarlett has an enviable career and a wealth of knowledge to draw upon in his new role as specialist defensive coach at Whitten Oval.
Ex-teammate and fellow Bulldogs’ coaching appointment Cam Mooney, can attest to Scarlett’s suitability for the role mentoring and educating the Dogs young, defensive stable.
"You're talking about one of the greatest full-backs to ever play and, without doubt, one of the smartest men I've ever come across on a football field with his direction and knowledge of the game," Mooney told The Age.
"While he's not a person to stand in front of 1000 people and give his overview of the game, one-on-one or in a small group of defenders he's absolutely brilliant with what he says and how he says it."
While Scarlett shares his lessons learned with the Bulldogs key defenders once a week, Mooney will focus his energies on helping the Club’s emerging forwards learn their craft.
