Over 650 loyal Western Bulldogs reserved seat holders were given an exclusive insight into the inner sanctum at Whitten Oval last night - including an in depth presentation from Senior Coach Brendan McCartney on the future direction of the Club.
Coach McCartney captivated the audience of the Bulldog faithful, speaking candidly about how he intends to shape the playing list over the coming years, targeting people who are not only talented footballers but are also upstanding in character to build a successful and sustainable football Club.
McCartney believes a key driver in on field success is recruiting good people who train hard for their teammates and keep each other accountable.
“What we are most passionate about here at this Club is developing people and what we call good teammates,” McCartney said.
“We want to be the best developing club at the AFL and if we fill this place up with good people and develop them the right way… we will win games.
“A lot of good people who can play the game really well, you know what that translates to? Long term success on the field and a Club that is consistently competitive and does things the right way.
“There is no quick fix there is no easy way through it - that is why we need your help.”
Peter Gordon, the person the Bulldogs Board recently endorsed as the best person to succeed current President David Smorgon, also addressed the audience passionately talking about the future of the red, white and blue.
“It falls to me first of all to acknowledge what a wonderful, magnificent, unprecedented job David [Smorgon] has done,” Gordon said.
“We have a big job to do, and we have priorities that we need to achieve.
“We will be raising, and we are in the process of raising money to give Macca and the coaching department more opportunity to accelerate the development of our exciting, young talent.
“I look forward to working as hard as I can with all of you in our various roles to make sure that our great Club grows bigger and better.”
The Western Bulldogs would like to thank all Bulldogs members who came to support the Club in what ultimately was a highly successful event and look forward to your ongoing support as we build towards a successful and sustainable future.
