Williamstown Football Club General Manager Brendan Curry stated, “This influx of TAC Cup players are the most talented we have seen since the recruitment of players such as Liam Picken, Patrick Rose, Scott Meyer, David Stretton and Tom Langlands in 2005.”
A key focus of Williamstown has been to recruit the most talented and exciting TAC Cup players. These players may have just been overlooked in the recent AFL National and Rookie Drafts and are all keen to learn and to develop to a level where they can achieve their football goals.
The introduction of the 23rd player rule, where the team can select a 1st year TAC Cup player in the senior side on 10 occasions, makes it even more important that the Club have talented players who can step up as a 23rd player. And then hopefully be good enough to warrant selection in our best 22 going forward.”
New Williamstown Football Club Reserves Coach / Development Coach Adam Potter who has accepted the dual role for the next two years said, “The Williamstown list is really starting to take shape and it is exciting as the Development Coach to see 10 players out of the TAC cup join the Williamstown Football Club in 2010. We will also have approximately 10 other players joining the club who will be in their first or second year of senior football from a range of different leagues.”
“We have incorporated an extensive Development program for 2010, Todd Clark (ex-Oak Park 2009 Premiership Coach) and I are looking forward to working with approximately 20 new players and assisting them with not only their football development but their professional development also. Our aim is to support these young players to meet the demands of playing VFL footy while managing University or working full time. One of our major focuses was to try and recruit the best young talent to the club and I am confident that you will see some of these young players running around in our senior side in 2010.
