Rookie midifielder Lin Jong said Sunday’s clash with Geelong provided a steep learning curve for the youthful Western Bulldogs side.

Collecting a career best 24 disposals and kicking his first AFL goal at Simonds Stadium, Jong turned heads in just his third senior game.

Fearless in the contest, the 19-year-old is quickly developing a reputation for winning the hard ball and again showed the courage that caught Coach Brendan McCartney’s eye, going back with the flight to mark on multiple occasions.

“Brendan [McCartney] kind of enforces it to just crack in… and they say that before the game. When it was my turn to go I went,” Jong said.

“It was good to get that first goal - it was a bit sneaky but I will take it.

“I am still getting used to [senior footy], it is still very quick. My fitness needs to get up as well.”

Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers, Jong believed running alongside the likes of Geelong superstars Jimmy Bartel and Corey Enright accelerated his learning curve as he continues to become accustomed to senior football.

“Definitely just the running patterns and where they run and where to go. I think there are a lot of positives to take out of the game,” he said.
