After being restricted to the sidelines for the past three weeks with knee soreness, Adam Cooney is in the mix to return against St Kilda on Sunday.

Subject to a fitness test, the Brownlow Medallist is eyeing a return to football, potentially as soon as this weekend according to Western Bulldogs Captain Matthew Boyd.

While the Club’s management of Cooney’s knee injury is ongoing, Boyd said he would be a chance to line up against the Saints.

“He would be a chance,” Boyd said, “…his mindset has been really positive around the group and he is doing everything he can to get back and playing for us this year.”

Boyd believes Cooney is better placed mentally and physically in comparison to twelve months ago and while the knee injury will never completely heal, Cooney is a valued member of the Bulldogs midfield.

“He’s progressing well - he is progressing better than he was this time last year so that is a real positive for us and for Adam,” Boyd said.
