A number of newly arrived people to Australia were welcomed to the country with an introductory course to AFL and the Western Bulldogs this week through the Bulldog’s community arm, SpiritWest Services.

The Bulldogs went on an ‘AFL Blitz’ conducting a number of interactive classes including a visit to AMES Education Werribee.

Students learnt the basics of the game including lessons on AFL lingo and terminology, fundamental rules and, importantly, how to get behind the Red, White and Blue.

While many students had little to no knowledge surrounding the game when the classes began, they all left with a much greater appreciation for Australia’s home grown game and of  course the West’s own team - the Bulldogs.

Students who participated in the program were also offered the opportunity to attend live matches throughout the season to expose them to the real on field action.

The Western Bulldogs also plan to conduct a hands on football workshop with the AMES Education students later in the year to hone their skills and new learnt knowledge.

The aim of the program, ( Include Government funding info), is to help newly arrived people understand and integrate into Australian culture leveraging the power of sport, especially footy.
