The Western Bulldogs are pleased to confirm Captain Matthew Boyd, who came equal third in Monday night’s Brownlow medal count with 24 votes, has re-signed with the Club.

The Club would also like to announce that courageous midfielder Daniel Cross has committed his future with the Club.

General Manager of Football James Fantasia said the Club was thrilled to re-sign the Club stalwarts.

“It’s a great result for all parties and a just reward for both players who have been outstanding for the Club in recent years.”

First-year captain, Boyd has enjoyed a stellar season topping the AFL in disposals, contested possessions and clearances — earning him a second All-Australian selection.

Recruited from Frankston in the VFL, Boyd has worked his way through the rookie list in 2002 to become one of the Club’s most important players.

Daniel Cross continued his consistent form in 2011 and has now averaged 24 possessions or more per game in his past seven seasons — he ranks number one at the Club for tackles, handballs and marks in 2011.

Recruited in 2000 with pick number 56, the 2008 Charles Sutton medallist was  rewarded for his brave style of play this season, earning a nomination for Most Courageous Player at the annual AFLPA’s awards.

Both players are expected to figure prominently in the Club’s best and fairest award to be held on October 7.

The Club expects that further re-signings would be announced shortly.
