Shaun Higgins has been named acting captain for Saturday's AFL Challenge against Port Adelaide at London's iconic Kia Oval.

The boys hit The Oval on Thursday morning London time to test out the track in advance of this weekend's match.

Speaking from The Oval, Higgins said that with two young teams going at it he expected a good show.

"For us the likes of Dahlhaus, Jones, Liberatore and Wallis will be playing - the ones who were able to make a name for themselves this season - they will be there on Saturday and no doubt out to do the same.

"For us it's a great opportunity to get together and keep building on what we've put in place in the last 12 months - to keep working on what we want to do and what we want to become.

"It's exciting to be able to play and hopefully we'll put a good show on come this Saturday," Higgins said.

Higgins talked about the excitement amongst the players around getting back on the track.

"Once you cross that white line and get out there and kick around that footy it's hard to hold back.

Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney reflected on what it meant to arrive at such a historic sporting ground.

“When you get here and you see this place and you breathe it, you see how special it is and you want to be an active part of it. When we got off the bus this morning it was a reminder that this is a special place and we’re lucky to be here.

“It’s brilliant to have the opportunity to come away with your club, experience the world and showcase the great game,” McCartney said.
