A round three loss to St Kilda seems a distant memory for Western Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd, and while a lot has changed for both sides, it hasn't stopped the Dogs from addressing the areas in which they fell short the last time the two sides met.

"You probably learn more from their last month to six weeks than from the last time we played them," Boyd said at a press conference earlier this week.

"We've probably learned we have to deal with their defensive structures a bit better, and how they were able to generate numbers behind the footy."

Winning two of their past three matches, the Saints sit tenth on the AFL Premiership Ladder just one game adrift of the top-eight. With their finals aspirations truly in the balance, Boyd expects a fierce contest Sunday afternoon at Etihad Stadium.

"They're playing some really good footy, and a really competitive bunch of players they are."

The Western Bulldogs made four changes to their side that went down to Carlton last weekend with Tory Dickson, Liam Jones, Jordan Roughead and Clay Smith returning to the line-up.
