The Western Bulldogs took time out today to recognise the contribution of Development Manager Brad Gotch, who will not be renewing his contract with the Western Bulldogs or Williamstown Football Club next season.  During his time at the Western Bulldogs, Gotch has played an integral role in player development while also fulfilling his role as head coach of the Williamstown Football Club.

Gotch admitted this week that after 8 years as head coach of Williamstown (6 of these during the Collingwood-Williamstown alignment), he had begun to question whether it was time to hand over the reign’s and look for new opportunities elsewhere.

A popular figure at the Western Bulldogs, Gotch is regarded in the highest esteem.  His football brain and communication skills have made him a valuable resource for the Club and a popular figure amongst the Bulldog’s up and coming talent.

Gotch is the second longest coach of Williamstown in the 146 year history of the Club.  He coached Williamstown to the finals in 6 of his 8 years, including the 2003 VFL Premiership and in total coached 161 games for 93 wins, 63 losses and 2 draws.

“I put in a lot of effort into my role at the Club and I would like to think I have had a big say in the development of players like Callan Ward, Sam Reid, Easton Wood and Jarrod Harbrow, who came back and spent a fair bit of time at Williamstown.  Then there are players like Stephen Tiller, Dylan Addison and Wayde Skipper also.  So I have a lot of fond memories from my time as the Development Manager at the Western Bulldogs,” Gotch said.

While understanding that Bradley Gotch may seek further employment elsewhere, the Western Bulldogs are still hopeful of securing his services in a player welfare and professional development role.

“Unfortunately our resources don’t allow us to have the capacity for a full time position in this area.  However, Brad has done such a great job we would love to keep him in a part time capacity, to follow up the great work he has done,” General Manager of Football James Fantasia said.

Williamstown General Manager, Brendan Curry also joined in thanking Gotch for his contribution to VFL football.

“Brad Gotch has been a fantastic contributor to the Williamstown Football Club, however it was mutually agreed that we will not be seeking a renewal of his contract.  Now together with the Western Bulldogs, we will now go ahead with the process of appointing our next Senior Coach.”
