INJURED Western Bulldogs defender Tom Williams has endorsed his fellow key back Lukas Markovic to take it up to the in-form Adelaide forwards in their match at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.
Markovic had a tough time during the Bulldogs' loss against West Coast at the weekend, with Eagles full-forward Josh Kennedy kicking four goals on him in the first quarter.
Kennedy had five goals by half-time and finished with seven as the Eagles ran out winners by 49 points. Markovic played in Kennedy for three quarters before Brian Lake replaced him.
Markovic this week must play on Kurt Tippett or Taylor Walker, who were both damaging during the Crows' victory over Gold Coast at the weekend.
Walker kicked five goals and Tippett kicked four as the Crows thumped the Suns by 69 points.
"He's really resilient," Williams said of Markovic.
"To his credit he fought back. You need a thick skin when you're a backman."
Williams, who is recovering from a shoulder operation, said Markovic had the right demeanour for a backman.
"I love playing with him," he said. "He never gets frazzled."
Markovic spent three years on Hawthorn's list before moving on to VFL club Box Hill Hawks. The Bulldogs recruited him from there with the No.63 selection in the 2009 NAB AFL draft.
He made his AFL debut in round one last year at 24 years of age. He played 16 matches and finished equal 10th with Shaun Higgins in the Bulldogs' best and fairest.
Williams had surgery after his shoulder popped out the back of its socket four weeks ago, and while he has been doing plenty of fitness work he doesn't expect to move into contact work for six or seven weeks.
Tom Williams and Richmond midfielder Daniel Jackson were at the Live at the Footy launch at Richmond's Corner Hotel.
Live at the Footy will feature bands and solo artists before the match or at half-time at 13 games at the MCG or Etihad Stadium on Saturday nights.
