Scores of the nation’s top junior footballers will realise their dream of becoming part of an AFL club tomorrow night at the 2011 AFL Draft in Sydney.

For Bulldogs senior coach Brendan McCartney this is one of the great times to be a coach.

“As a coach it’s almost my favourite time of the year in a lot of ways, because you know young men are getting the opportunity to play football.”

“I enjoy seeing their faces when they get drafted, I especially enjoy their reaction when they arrive at an AFL club and get to meet people that they’ve admired from afar,”

McCartney said that the Bulldogs recruiting staff have been working over time to ensure that the right type of players are drafted to Whitten Oval.

“There’s good players in every draft and we’ll find some,” he said.

“Our recruiting boys have done an enormous job scouring the talent…we have a clear picture of the people we want to bring to our Club.”

“The right type of player is a smart player, they’re a consistently hard player, they’re a good teammate, they do the right thing at the right time, they train and live well and they’re good to be around and play footy with.”
