Season in short:
The talented Williams endured a tough season in 2013. After missing the first eight rounds through injury, he proved his readiness for return by the Round 9 clash with St Kilda and played out the match. Tragically, the following week against Port Adelaide in Darwin, Williams suffered a dislocated shoulder requiring season-ending reconstructive surgery. The versatile big man spent the remainder of the year in rehabilitation in the hope of a successful 2014 return. Just before injury struck in the Darwin match, Williams kicked the eighth goal of his 78-game career.
Stat that mattered:
Williams’ game time was limited through injuries this season but his mere presence in two games greatly enhanced the Bulldogs' forward line setup. He kicked one goal, two behinds and had two score assists between the two wins from 56.6% game time.
What they said:
"While it's a disappointing outcome for Tom, we know he will treat his recovery with the professionalism and dedication we have seen from him since he arrived at the club. Tom is a highly valued Western Bulldogs person and we look forward to seeing him ready for the commencement of pre-season training."
- Chief Executive Simon Garlick
Pre-season focus:
A full pre-season will be paramount in setting up Williams for season 2014 both physically and mentally after spending the second half of the year as part of the rehabilitation group. Gaining confidence in his body again will be the first priority and finding touch during simulated drills will be beneficial.
