Recruiters have poured over the match vision, watched the top junior football talent live, but neither sometimes make the task any easier to benchmark physical performance of draft prospects.

In a controlled environment, the AFL Draft Combine tests the physical limits and attributes of the most highly touted junior footballers, and provides an added dimension to the knowledge bank  that recruiters compile in the countdown to the AFL National Draft.

While the tests are controlled, the pressure is not, with recruiters from each of the 18 clubs looking on analysing the prospects' every move.

Performing under pressure has been a trademark of several Dogs draft recruits at draft combines past, with a number of current Western Bulldogs listed players excelling in draft combine testing in recent years.

The 2012 crop of draftees stood up during the AFL Draft Combine last year at Etihad Stadium, led by Jake Stringer who was one of three recruits to produce a perfect score in the goal kicking test.

The 19-year-old followed up by tying third in the clean hands test, with none other than fellow Bulldog recruit Nathan Hrovat.

Jack Macrae also showed he could add value in the forward line, becoming one of 17 players to share equal fourth in the goal kicking test.

Father-son Lachie Hunter was in a league of his own when it came to the agility testing at the combine, ranking first by completing the circuit in eight seconds – 0.25 seconds before the second placed runner.

In 2010 it was also the Dogs father-son recruits making a stand with Mitch Wallis placing equal third in the clean hands test and sixth in the agility run.

Tom Liberatore showed his skills are not limited to inside the contest, finishing equal third in the kicking efficiency drills, boasting 83% accuracy.

Back in 2004 Tom Williams also demonstrated his athleticism for a key position option, ranking second in the three kilometre time trial, eighth in the shuttle runs and sixth in the running vertical jump.
