MCG session to decide final team
The final make-up of Friday night's side to take on the Lions will be determined after Thursday's training session at the MCG
Earlier this week, coach Rodney Eade said there were a few players under the pump after a disappointing couple of games.
Many players looked keen to prove their form and fitness when the Dogs hit the MCG on Thursday morning.
"It is fair to say the side has not been finalised so post training today the boys will be sitting down and finishing that off," Dogs football manager James Fantasia said on Thursday.
"It has been something to really chew over this week. There is no shying away from the fact.
"There may be one or two changes or there might not be any changes - that is how close it will be."
Tom Williams, who is expected to play VFL this weekend for Williamstown, trained with the senior group but defender Brian Lake and forward Robert Murphy were on light duties.
Murphy has been battling a knee injury all season, and is relying on pain-killing injections to get through games.
Fantasia said the Dogs wouldn't be afraid to make changes after making two last week when Andrejs Everitt and Sam Reid were dropped for Ryan Griffen and Ben Hudson.
"There is that pressure for spots within our side, and that's a really healthy thing," he said.
"I think the other thing that has happened, and I can't recall when this has been the case, but we've got a 100 per cent injury-free list this weekend. We have every player to choose from if Tom comes up, which we'll look at after training today."
Fantasia said the side would be influenced by match ups, and what worked in round 20 when the Bulldogs travelled to the Gabba and beat the Lions by 18 points.
He also said the Dogs would be somewhat surprised if Lions' skipper Jonathan Brown lined up should he have a fractured cheekbone.
"The fact he might come in with some sort of injury cloud … he's a professional and he won't put himself at too much risk, I would have thought, if it was a major problem," he said.
"It surprised me a little bit, because if it was a fracture, there would be genuine concerns because we don't want players being injured.
"I've got no doubts he won't play if he's not ready to play. If there's a possibility it won't happen, it would be nice."
Fantasia said his players were not distracted by comments made by Lions players this week that suggested there was more pressure on the third-placed Dogs to win this game.
