Local Footscray hip-hop duo Diafrix will make a special appearance against Essendon on Sunday, performing pre-game and at the half time break as part of Multicultural Round celebrations.
The two African refugees, Momo and Azmarino, rose to prominence with the Triple J favourite “Running it” and have been forging their way in the Australian music industry ever since. Providing the backing track for the Western Bulldogs membership video “Our Heartland” in 2013, the two musicians from the west of Melbourne have unique ties with the Club.
With Azmarino away overseas, Momo will be joined by Joelistics and they will perform 4 songs together including Running It.
Their performance will form part of the multicultural round entertainment at Etihad Stadium, which includes Chinese Lion dancers, Bollywood performers, an African drumming group and Arabic belly dancers featuring around the concourse.
At the AFL playground pre-match there will be face painters doing international flags, a Vietnamese lantern making stand, Rangoli and a Henna tattoo artist drawing Club mascots.
Over 200 international students from Victoria University and 400 people from a diverse range of multicultural backgrounds including refugees and migrants will also attend their first AFL game, in the Bulldogs backyard.
Representatives of the Bulldogs’ Building Community Resilience program will play in a curtain raiser pre-match, while a number of Bulldogs Friendly Schools students will compete in the AFL Auskick grid game at half time.
The Western Bulldogs will go head to head with Essendon on Sunday 14 July 2013 from 3:20pm in round 16 which is deemed Multicultural Round.
