Three Western Bulldogs affiliated teams will go head to head on Sunday morning in the 5th Annual Unity Cup tournament to mark Cultural Diversity Week.

The round robin AFL 9’s tournament will take place at JJ Holland Park in Kensington from 9am and is co-hosted by Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne, Essendon and Hawthorn alongside the Australian Federal Police and AFL Multicultural Program.

The Cup, which involves Muslim, Jewish, African, Southeast Asian and Indigenous communities from across Australia, celebrates our great game and the cultural diversity of our community.

The Western Bulldogs affiliated MUJU Peace Club is a prime example of how footy can unite young people from a range of cultural back grounds.

The MUJU Peace Club was formed in 2011 when the Bialik College and Newport Islamic Society joined forces after being inspired by the Palestinian / Israeli Peace Team’s visit to Whitten Oval.

The name of the MUJU Peace Club is derived from uniting Muslim - Jewish (MUJU) which transforms onto the field where the young men are taught about leadership, tolerance, communication and respect.

The Newport Islamic College will also field a standalone team while Flemington will also represent the Western Bulldogs in the tournament.

The Western Bulldogs involvement in the Unity Cup is proudly supported by Programmed, the Club’s 2012 Multicultural Program partner.
