First round draftee Nathan Hrovat has made a successful return to VFL football on the weekend, after being restricted to the sidelines in recent weeks with a calf injury.

The 18-year-old completed his match in the Williamstown development league side on Saturday, with Medical Services Manager Andrew McKenzie pleased with his recovery.

“Nathan’s come in really well today, got his game in on the weekend with the VFL and he’s gone really well, so we are happy with his progress,” McKenzie said.

Ryan Griffen and Daniel Giansiracusa will be monitored during training this week as they continue to rehabilitate respective SC joint and scapula injuries.

“Griffo is settling down really well, we’ll see how he goes over the week and we will make further assessments as he progresses,” McKenzie said.

“Gia is in the same boat as Griff, his soreness is settling down reasonably well and we will touch base with him throughout the week and see how he is progressing.”

Robert Murphy is also making good strides in his recovery from a calf injury, and is expected to rejoin full training next week.

“Murph is progressing really well, he has started running – we expect him to pick up some speed work at the end of the week and all going well he will train next week,” he said.

Young key defender Michael Talia, however, suffered a fractured jaw in the VFL last weekend – with an x-ray during the week confirming the diagnosis.

“Unfortunately Michael fractured his jaw last week, confirmed on x-ray during the week and he will miss four to six weeks,” he said.
