Inconsistency is often inevitable when fielding a young team but Western Bulldogs’ ruckman Will Minson is confident his developing teammates will learn to limit the difference between games.

Buoyed by a number of notable performances from his fellow teammates this year, Minson said success will come when the young side can function as a cohesive unit, with everyone playing their role.

“The inconsistency is the frustration of a young team and that is something we are seeking to address,” Minson said.

“We are upbeat about the direction we are going and there is a lot of exceptional young talent that needs time to develop and mature.

“There are always positives from each week, Clay Smith was exceptional on the weekend and it was a really standout performance by him and each week we will find that.

“It is when we all click and everybody plays their role and contributes evenly that we will win games of football and continue to win games of footy.”

While the age demographics of the Bulldogs’ lineup may impact the team’s ability to contend with more mature opposition, Minson refuses to use inexperience as the excuse for the team’s 70 point loss against West Coast on Sunday.

“We were definitely disappointed with the outcome on the weekend, we certainly didn’t play the way we would have liked,” he said.

“You can get lost in good stats and bad stats but if you watch the game you can see that we didn’t use the ball really well and they were pretty strong in most areas in the ground.

Minson is determined his team can turn their form around against North Melbourne on Saturday, but is conscious of shutting down their key targets up forward.

The 28-year-old also said the anticipated return of Robert Muphy, Ryan Griffen and Daniel Giansiracusa will bolster the Bulldogs’ experienced stocks.

“[The Kangas] are a really strong side they have played some pretty impressive football this year, I am really looking forward to playing them this weekend,” he said.

“They are playing some good, attacking football and have some strong players up forward that will take marks and kick goals and they are a much improved side.

“[It’s a] good chance this week to get a few boys back which will be exciting, [we have] missed having Bob in the forward line and Gia running around up there as well so it will be great to have some experience back.”
