The Casey Scorpions have continued their unbeaten run to the season, defeating Williamstown by 23 points at Casey Fields on Saturday night.

A strong wind favouring one end of the ground helped each team apply scoreboard pressure when it was their turn with the breeze, but missed opportunities in the final term by the Seagulls cost them a chance at victory.

The Seagulls were held goalless in the opening quarter by the Scorpions, as moving the ball forward against the breeze became an incredibly difficult task.

As a result, Williamstown found themselves trailing by 26 points at the first change, but a six-goal second quarter saw them swing the momentum, to lead at half-time by two points.

The weather conditions against posed a challenge in the third term, when Casey converted seven goals to Williamstowns’ one – leaving the Seagulls 34 points down at the final break.

Inaccuracy in the fourth quarter prevented Williamstown from recovering the margin, eventually going down to the undefeated Casey by 23 points.

Bulldog Lukas Markovic battled manfully in defence on key opposition talls Chris Dawes, Jesse Hogan and Jack Fitzpatrick, in conditions that made life difficult for defenders.

Up forward for the Seagulls, Ayce Cordy provided a strong marking target and proved a handful for his Scorpions’ opponent when faced with a one on one contest, finishing the match with three goals.

Dylan Addison also played his defensive forward role well, tackling strongly and kicking a goal.

The Seagulls now sit at 2-2 on the year and must now regroup against Collingwood, who they host at Burbank Oval on Sunday.
