It’s not every day you get to talk to your childhood hero.

And it’s probably even more rare that two Western Bulldogs icons, Bob Murphy and Marcus Bontempelli, would each idolise the same Richmond player in their youth.

In Episode Two of the Barkly Street podcast spin-off, Happy Hour, 800-goal Tigers superstar and cult hero Matthew Richardson jumps on Zoom to indulge the former Richmond fanatics.

The request for ‘Richo’ to join the show was kick-started by a photo which emerged of a fresh-faced ‘Bont’ standing on Punt Road Oval with his idol at a Tigers kids’ clinic about 15 years ago.

It instigated a highly-entertaining chat between the three modern day stars which covered a range of topics, including:

  • Richo’s own childhood hero.
  • His theory on recruiting AFL players.
  • State of origin football.
  • The day he famously booted 10 goals against the Bulldogs in 2004.
  • Living with a young family in isolation, and his DIY skills.
