Five Western Bulldogs players were given the nod in the AFL Coaches’ Association’s player of the year awards in round ten, headed by a standout performance by Ryan Griffen.
The stand-in captain had a considerable impact around the ground with 40 touches, eight clearances, nine tackles and eight inside 50s – as well as top points in the AFLCA’s votes polling.
The dominant game sees Griffen add to his strong form this season, also catapulting him into 15th place in the AFL’s Official Player Ratings.
Tom Liberatore was next in line in the AFLCA voting, gaining eight points for his assertive display around the stoppages, finding a career high 35 possessions and amassing an impressive 13 clearances.
The father-son recruit’s persistent work and clean hands also set up super substitute Daniel Giansiracusa for a goal – with the veteran being awarded four points in the AFLCA polling for his leadership and composure in the forward line.
57 hitouts ensured Will Minson’s name also made the list, with the ruckman taking his game to the next level this season – leading the league in both hitouts and hitouts to advantage by a considerable margin.
Rounding out the AFLCA votes was Dale Morris, who was unshakable in defence against Port Adelaide, despite the tough Darwin conditions.
Chad Wingard was the only Port Adelaide player to register votes in the round ten clash, awarded two for his two goal haul.
