Inspirational leader Matthew Boyd tonight made it back-to-back Charles Sutton medals, after edging out fellow midfielder Ryan Griffen 168 votes to 150.

Boyd added to his 2009 and 2011 Charles Sutton medal capping off another standout season — topping the disposal count in the AFL for the second consecutive year.

Averaging 32.8 possessions in 2012, Boyd continued to lead the way around the ball, while mentoring emerging midfielders Mitch Wallis, Tom Liberatore and Clay Smith.

The selfless leader proved his durability once again this season, playing all 22 games, adding to167 out of 169 in a seven year period.

20 of 22 games this season, Boyd collected 25 possessions or more, outlining his tremendous consistency.

Boyd also reached the 200 club in 2012, which is no mean-feat for a player who was drafted out of the VFL reserves competition, then rookie listed and now the captain of the Western Bulldogs.
