The respect and admiration Senior Coach Brendan McCartney has gained from his playing group has Western Bulldogs’ President Peter Gordon confident the team is on the right path.

Despite external views, Gordon could not speak highly enough of the senior coach, particularly his ability to maintain the trust of the playing group in recent weeks.

“He’s a remarkable man Macca, I’ve got to say, I’ve grown to admire him more and more as I’ve got to know him and in particular over the sort of maelstrom of the last seven weeks,” Gordon told Sports Today on 3AW.

“I’ve seldom seen a man that carries the respect and admiration of the playing group quite as much as Macca does, let alone under the trying circumstances we are currently under.

“These players admire Macca, they love him, they trust him and that’s got to be a good basis going forward.”

Gordon said the forthcoming AFL equalisation model,  has the Club well placed for their long term future, with an increase in funds being directed to the football department to support McCartney and his team.

“We are on a journey, we are on a trail, we need to build for continuous improvement,” Gordon said.

“Where Andrew and the commission are going with equalisation provides us with the first opportunity really in a generation to plan over a long term period of time for growth and strategic and scientific improvement in the football department.”
