LAST WEEK
It took until the last quarter for the Dogs to get going, but the trip to Cairns was a successful one, heading back to the kennel with four points.
With 36 touches and nine tackles, Liam Picken (151) is a must-have defender this season. Averaging 104.1 over his 13 games, the DEF/MID has now increased $165K to make those who took the punt on him from the start of the season very happy.
Clocking in at a career-high $600,000, Jack Macrae once again racked it up in Cairns. While not quite matching his 168 last season, the midfielder found the ball 33 times while taking 10 marks to finish on 143.
Marcus Bontempelli started the game slowly. With just three points to his name at the first change, he added 46, 34 and 42 in the following quarters to finish on 125.
TOP 5 SCORERS V GOLD COAST
- 151 – Liam Picken (DEF/MID, $580,000)
- 143 – Jack Macrae (MID, $600,000)
- 129 – Marcus Bontempelli (FWD/MID, $447,000)
- 111 – Matthew Boyd (DEF/MID, $578,000)
- 94 – Luke Dahlhaus (FWD/MID, $471,000)
ON THE RADAR
Forward Caleb Daniel played his second game and knocked out a handy 72 points to take his price to $194,000. He still offers a lot of value as his breakeven is -2.
Josh Prudden (51) made an impressive debut with 11 disposals and six marks. Rising $13K, he is a potential midfield downgrade to help you acquire the cash you need for an upgrade in the run home to finals.
WHAT’S COMING UP
It’s the good old Cats v Dogs rivalry this Saturday afternoon. In a trip down the highway to Kardinia Park, the Bulldogs will be aiming to cement their place in the top eight.
The two sides last met in round 16 last year with the injured Tom Liberatore (119) topping the scores off the back of his 32 disposal game. Marcus Bontempelli (116) laid 10 tackles.
