Western Bulldogs midfielder Liam Picken is the latest player to re-sign with the Club, putting pen to paper on a two year contract extension this week.
The new deal will keep Picken at the Bulldogs to the end of 2017 and into a ninth season at the Kennel.
Picken has added new dimensions to his game in 2015, adapting to a more attacking midfield role from the dour defensive remit he built his on-field reputation upon.
The 28-year-old is averaging a career-high 22 disposals and six tackles a match, kicking seven goals from nine games this season.
Picken is one of three Bulldogs to sign on in the last month, alongside Club captain Bob Murphy and 2014 Sutton Medallist Tom Liberatore.
Bulldogs List Manager Jason McCartney said Picken’s signature was an important one for the Club.
“Liam’s experience is invaluable for our young list and his leadership skills continue to grow.
“His on-field performance this year has been outstanding, and we look forward to seeing that continue.”
Picken said he looked forward to the next two years with an exciting young list.
“It’s exciting times around the Club, it’s been great while I’ve been here and hopefully the next few years are going to be just as exciting.
“I’ve found a bit more balance in my game this year so I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and the side is really on the right path.”
Picken started his career as a rookie, recruited to the Bulldogs with pick number 30 in the 2009 AFL Rookie Draft.
Drafted from VFL club Williamstown as a mature-age recruit, Picken made his debut in round two of the 2009 AFL Premiership season, and has played 138 senior games.
