The Western Bulldogs will head into round one full of confidence after an impressive performance in their final NAB Challenge match.
The 61-point win over Collingwood on Saturday night saw the Dogs out hustle their opponents with pressure around the ball, and cut open the Pies defence with slick ball use.
Luke Beveridge has spent the pre-season placing great emphasis on his team’s versatility and that’s what came to the fore on Saturday night.
Speaking after the match, Jarrad Grant said his teammates growing ability to roll through all parts of the ground was integral to an even team performance.
“We’ve got a lot of guys playing multiple roles,” Grant told BulldogsTV.
“Spreading the load makes it a lot easier rather than relying on the one or two.”
While the Dogs had 54 inside 50s for the match, Grant said it was the pressure from their forwards to keep the ball in the forward half that was the biggest positive.
The Bulldogs kicked 12 of their 18 goals on the back of turnovers.
“(We were) driving a lot of pressure around the contest and inside forward 50, and trying to get as many forward half turnovers as we can.”
Emerging from the preseason competition with two wins and a narrow seven point loss to Melbourne, the Bulldogs now turn their attention to their Easter Saturday (4 April) season opener against West Coast at Etihad Stadium.
