Season in short:
By his own admission, 2015 was a “challenging” year for Will Minson.
The former All-Australian struggled to find consistency and only played 10 games in the senior side.
Minson’s challenge was to adapt to a new game plan, but the 30-year-old did find patches of his best throughout the year.
The ruckman’s highlight came in round nine against GWS, playing against the in-form Shane Mumford.
Minson collected 17 hitouts, 12 disposals, two goals and 16 Sutton Medal votes.
He also earned a call-up back to the senior side for the elimination final against Adelaide.
Competing against dominant Crows ruckman Sam Jacobs, Minson played perhaps his most influential game of the year – collecting 26 hitouts and 12 possessions.
Stat that mattered:
Minson averaged 26 hitouts from his 10 games, ranking 11th in the league.
What they said:
“It’s been a challenging year, I haven’t played as much footy as I would have liked, having to adapt to a new game style and some new requirements, that was probably the negative to it. But the positive was to have got back into the side at finals and to play well in an important game, and play well against good opponents throughout the year was great, I just need to make sure I do that every week.” – Will Minson, September 2015
“Will was probably set some challenges about playing forward and different roles and to his credit he did everything he could to keep working on those and building his craft forward. The thing with Will when we saw him come back in, in spikes of his game, he was really competitive against Mumford, and Jacobs in the final, so it proves that Will’s still got it, he can compete against the best, he just needs to continue to find that balance and consistency to maintain that edge in his game.” – Steven King, September 2015
