Western Bulldogs defender Zaine Cordy has signed a contract extension, re-committing to the Club until at least the end of 2018.

Recruited as a father-son selection in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft (pick No. 62 overall), Cordy made his debut in round 22 against North Melbourne after a string of impressive performances at VFL level.

Bulldogs List Manager Jason McCartney said Cordy’s signature was an important one for the Club, and its list demographic.

“It’s terrific for Zaine to join a long list of players that have recently committed to the Club for the longer term,” he said.

“Zaine has adapted well to the AFL environment and has demonstrated some really encouraging signs as a young tall defender.”

“We look forward to seeing him continue to flourish under Luke’s tutelage and the football program broadly.”

Cordy said he couldn’t be happier to extend his time at Victoria University Whitten Oval.

“I’ve had some really good support from senior players and coaches, and I’d like to repay the faith, particularly for the effort they’ve put into developing me.”

“It’s an exciting time to be at the Club and I’m just really glad to be on board until 2018.”

Cordy’s father Brian played 124 for the Bulldogs between 1981 and 1988 — the 19-year-old is one of four father-son recruits on the Western Bulldogs’ senior list.
