Season in short
While statistically Easton Wood’s 2016 didn’t quite match what he produced last season largely due to injury, his impact on the Bulldogs’ premiership-winning season is immeasurable.
Thrust into the captaincy after Robert Murphy injured his knee in round three, the 28-year-old had large shoes to fill but led with courage and pride, and as a Bulldogs premiership captain, now has a legacy that will echo through the ages.
Wood rarely makes a mistake, and his 20 disposal, 8 intercept mark performance against the Gold Coast in round 17, was the high-flying defender at his best.
Although all you need to know about Easton Wood the footballer was on display during the final two games of the year, a titan in the biggest games in the Club’s history.
The stat that mattered
Wood played his 100th game for the Club on July 29th against Geelong.
What they said
“Personally, my own season has been a bit of a frustrating one with niggles and injuries here and there.
“I missed rounds three and four with an annoying hamstring, I’d missed some time in the preseason, I’d had two minor strains, so I kept getting interruptions and then I did that same hamstring again in round 10.
“I got back and I was feeling ok, and then I did that ankle. All seasons have their ups and downs but it seemed like there were lots of annoying little things in, I guess, my own season which made it more amazing that I got to hold the [Cup] up in the end.”
Gram of the year
