THE END is nigh for the day Grand Final, concedes AFL chief Gillon McLachlan.
On Thursday, McLachlan said the AFL would not "rush" a decision on the Grand Final's start time.
However, on Friday McLachlan gave the strongest indication yet that the day Grand Final was on its last legs, telling radio station Triple M that a twilight start was "inevitable".
"More and more people think it's a chance to enhance the event," McLachlan said.
"You're not pushing it back late at night. Kids could still go to a twilight game. It would be a bigger, bolder experience and clearly it would have an impact on television."

But McLachlan would not say when a shift from the traditional 2.30pm opening bounce would be made.
"If you took a long-term view, it's inevitable, but it's a question of when and it's to do with the composition of the commission, the presidents and others in the industry who have their views."
