A goal from Lukas Webb in the dying seconds of the game has granted the Footscray Bulldogs with their seventh consecutive win, over North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Enduring all four seasons on a temperamental Melbourne afternoon, the ‘Scray struggled with their efficiency, working against the wind in the first term. Playing catch-up for the entire game, the Dogs trailed by three goals at the final break, before a Lukas Webb goal at the 28-minute mark of the final term sealed the six-point victory.
In his third game back, Lukas Webb was influential in the middle of the ground and forward line, collecting 31 disposals, six tackles and one goal. Developing forward Anthony Scott (23 disposals, seven tackles, one goal) continued his string of dominant performances, while Rhylee West (21 disposals, eight tackles, two goals) continued to push his case for a senior recall.
Emerging defender Buku Khamis was a dominant force in the backline, taking 10 marks and keeping the Roos to only four majors in the second half.
Kicking two back-to-back majors in the final term to lessen the margin to one-point, Ben Cavarra (Three goals, three tackles) continued his impressive VFL form after returning two weeks ago from a shoulder injury.
The ‘Scray head into the final round of the home and away season retaining their second-place position on the ladder. They face the 14th placed Coburg Lions next Saturday 24th of August at Piranha Park.
