Williamstown Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Brett Goodes and Anton Woods. Brett Goodes joins the club for Seasons 2011 and 2012 from the Northern Territory Thunder, while Anton Woods makes the switch from the Northern Bullants after playing 14 senior games last year including the VFL Grand Final.

Brett Goodes has played 111 VFL games for North Ballarat, including both the 2008 and 2009 VFL Grand Final victories. In 2008 Brett was named as a representative of the VFL Team of the Year and narrowly missed out on the Liston Trophy (League Best and Fairest).

In 2010 Brett was an outstanding contributor to the NT Thunder and finished runner up in their best and fairest after a slow start to the season due to a hip operation in the off season.

Williamstown FC General Manager, Brendan Curry stated that the opportunity to recruit Brett Goodes arose when AFL affiliate the Western Bulldogs employed Brett as the new Club Welfare Officer. Curry stated, “Brett will bring not only his significant football talents and experience to the Seagulls, but also the fact he will be working at the Western Bulldogs four days a week with their players is an added bonus and can only assist with our alignment.”

“Brett has had extensive VFL finals experience and been part of the successful leadership model under Ray McLean at North Ballarat. At 26 years of age he is in the prime of his football career.”

Anton Woods crosses to the Seagulls after a great year for the Northern Bullants. Anton played 14 Senior VFL Games including all VFL finals for the Bullants. In 2009 Anton won the Morrish Medal for the best player in the TAC Cup Competition under the coaching of Denis Pagan. Williamstown FC Football Manager Chris Dixon said that, “Anton trained with the Seagulls last year but decided to play with the Bullants. We’re very excited to get Anton across this year and undoubtedly his close friendship with another 2011 Seagull recruit Steven Witkowski was a major factor in Anton joining our club.”

“Anton will flourish under the Liam Picken Academy and will be a valuable addition to the Club. His leg speed and creativity through the midfield and up forward gives us flexibility and another goal scoring option.”
