Marcus Bontempelli's 30-possession, two-goal game in the Western Bulldogs' win over Sydney last Friday night has earned him a near perfect score from the coaches in the 2017 AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.
Bontempelli received nine votes from Luke Beveridge and John Longmire, one short of the maximum ten and the same total as Sydney forward Sam Reid, who kicked six goals for the Swans.
Bontempelli had a relatively quiet start to the match, picking up nine possessions in the first two quarters, but a strong second half saw him collect 21 touches and kick two goals, the second of which restored the lead to the Bulldogs late in the final term after Sydney had kicked five goals in a row.
Defender Easton Wood's nine marks saw him receive four votes, with Lin Jong and Liam Picken each receiving three votes. Jong had 23 possessions, laid seven tackles and kicked a second-quarter goal on Friday, while Picken kicked two vital last-term goals to go with his 21 disposals.
Marcus Adams' return to AFL football saw him pick up a vote for his solid defensive role. He had 20 possessions, took seven marks and laid five tackles.
Bontempelli's nine-vote performance took his season total to 10 - two ahead of Jason Johannisen - after he polled one vote in the Bulldogs' round one win over Collingwood.
Essendon's Zach Merrett and Port Adelaide's Ollie Wines lead the award after two rounds, with 18 votes each.
