Being voted by her peers to be a part of the four-person leadership group ahead this weekend’s AFLW season opener was a proud moment for Ellie Blackburn.

Signed in July 2016 along with Katie Brennan as one of the Club’s two marquee players, the 22-year-old said the opportunity means a lot.

“I was pretty proud to be honest, she told westernbulldogs.com.au

“I’m very proud that along with Katie, Nic and Scotty, we’re looking forward to working together and doing the best we can.’

Katie, Nic and Scotty, of course, are skipper Katie Brennan, and fellow leaders Nicole Callinan and Hannah Scott, but Blackburn said the team is fortunate to have leaders in every corner of the locker room.

“We’ve got a lot of help and support from everyone, so we’re in a pretty good position.”

While you can expect Blackburn to get plenty of the footy on Saturday night, it’s the lesser known names that Blackburn herself says fans should keep an eye out for.

“Girls like Lauren Spark and Brooke Lochland will be in that midfield group and start us up, which will be really handy, and then the likes of maybe a Bec Neaves or Ellyse Gamble up forward that are going to do something amazing with the footy hopefully.”

The Bulldogs face Fremantle at VU Whitten Oval on Saturday, February 4 at 7.35pm.
