It was an encouraging return to football for Western Bulldogs big man Travis Cloke on the weekend, kicking three goals in Footscray’s 49-point win over Sandringham in the VFL on Sunday.

It was Cloke’s first game since the AFL sides’ June 8 loss to the Swans after stepping away from the game temporarily while managing mental health issues.

Footscray coach Steve Grace was pleased with the big forward’s output, particularly given the circumstances.

“I thought it was a strong performance, particularly not playing for a few weeks and knowing he has the world’s microscope on him,” Grace told the Herald Sun after the game.

“To be able to connect with his teammates and knuckle down and play some strong footy, I thought it was a fantastic effort.”

While all of Cloke’s three goals came in the first half, he was busy around the ground picking up 22 disposals to go with 13 hitouts and five tackles.

Tory Dickson was also influential kicking three goals, while 19-year-old defender Bailey Williams was named best on ground with 29 disposals and five marks.
