Marcus Bontempelli has moved into the top ten of the AFLCA Player of the Year leaderboard after gaining near maximum votes from the coaches last Friday night.

The 21-year-old now sits in ninth place, one vote behind Essendon’s Zach Merrett and two back from Richmond’s Dustin Martin after his 22 disposal, three goal performance in the Bulldogs two point loss to the Giants.

Caleb Daniel returned in style after a week in the VFL, picking up 24 touches at 83% effectiveness, to go with eight marks, registering five coaches votes in the process, while Jack Macrae got three.

Every round, the AFL coaches vote for the best players from their game. The coaches vote for five players, giving them a mark from 1-5.

The maximum a player can score is 10 (with five votes from both coaches).
