Western Bulldogs veteran defender Dale Morris is back running as he ticks off another box in his return from a serious knee injury.
The 35-year-old was sidelined in February after partially tearing his ACL in a training drill.
“The knee is actually tracking really, really well,” Morris told SEN Afternoons.
“I had some scans last week, everything’s progressing nicely, ticking all the boxes I need to tick and the good thing is I’ve been able to have a couple of runs out on the oval, so slowly getting back into it.
“The thing with the partial ACL it’s a week to week thing, tick the boxes as we go and we can progress from there.”
Morris did not undergo an operation but wore a leg brace in the initial stages of rehabilitation.
“At 35, if I went off to have a knee reco it’s probably not ideal, so the best opportunity for me to come back and to be able to play this season was to let the body heal (and) be in a brace for about a month.
“It ended up being about 5 weeks in a Zimmer brace and that allows the body to do its own thing,” he said.
“For two weeks the brace was locked straight. It was on 24/7. The only time it came off was to shower. That gave the ACL the best chance to scar up and get strong again.”
Morris said some at home remedies had helped in his recovery process.
“My wife has been great at home. She’s been cooking up heaps of bone broth, I’ve been sculling bone broth every night, every day, just doing absolutely everything to give my body the best chance to heal and it’s working.”
“When you look after your body and what goes into it, it responds.”
