Development Coach and Williamstown Senior Coach Peter German looks at how the Western Bulldogs listed players faired in the VFL against Werribee Tigers on Sunday.
Tory Dickson: Kicked three goals and was lively across half forward. Showed his cleverness in one on one situations and he played a really important game - put on some really good pressure at times.
Tom Hill: Tom hill kicked 4 goals 1 and took some really strong contested marks in our forward line. He is really starting to show the ability that he has got. He kicked really important goals when we needed him. He is working hard both on the track and in the gym and it is starting to pay dividends.
Andrew Hooper: Hoops was good. We played him a little bit in defence this week which we know he can play. We are really pleased with his work in defence on the opposition smalls.
Matthew Panos: Played forward and back. He did some really smart things at times. He was able to set up his teammates with some smart play. We will try to keep developing him as both a defender and a forward.
Daniel Pearce: Slow start but he really built into the game. We are starting to see some smart play at the right time and he’s having a real impact on the game.
Fletcher Roberts: Roberts played in defence this week and had a tough job on some of their tall forwards and we were really pleased with his ability to restrict his opponent. He might have only had one goal kicked on him, so again, another development player that we are really pleased with how he is progressing.
Zeph Skinner: Zephy played mainly forward. He is really working hard with his defensive side of his game - chasing, tackling, really putting on some defensive pressure. I don’t think he kicked one this week but he worked hard to set up some others with his forward pressure so we were really pleased with that. He played a little bit in the ruck at the end and showed that he actually has a background of playing in the ruck so he was quite effective playing there.
Clay Smith: He played in the midfield and forward and kicked a goal. He showed his real hardness at the ball. He was really good with his groundwork in general play and worked really hard. We felt that he was a good contributor on the day.
Michael Talia: He was another one of our boys that had a big job playing in defence on some of their experienced forwards. Talia was really good. He had 22 possessions and was strong in his defensive skills. He is another development player who we are really pleased with how he is progressing - especially his defensive work.
Jason Tutt: He had limited game time due to his conditioning but he was a good contributor at times with his ability to set up with his pace and foot skills. He kicked the goal that put us in front so it was a real crunch goal.
Tom Campbell: Tommy played up forward and in the ruck. He was strong at the contest for us like he has been over the last three or four weeks and carried the load really well. Again a developing young ruckman who we are pleased with the way he is moving forward in that big man’s role and also being able to play forward as well.
Jason Johannisen: JJ injured himself early in the second quarter. We are hopeful that it is nothing long term. We will find out with his scans how everything is going to shape up. At the moment we are more hopeful that he is going to be able to come back this year again and be able to play.
Lin Jong: He was very good, we give him roles in the midfield and a little bit forward and a little in the back line. Lin has that size and speed - he has got the attributes to be able to play in all three areas and he did that quite effectively at times. It was an excellent development game for him this weekend.
Jack Redpath: He is getting better every week and becoming more active as a forward. He is understanding more of what is expected as a big key forward. He took a couple of pack marks, kicked a couple of goals and probably could have kicked a few more. He is just a big strong player who is starting to understand how to use his strength at VFL level.
Alex Greenwood: Greeny played in the midfield and was really good in general play with his ability to be able to help get numbers to the contest. Really good with his hands to be able to set up and release teammates on the outside. He won some important possessions when the game was in the balance in the last quarter. He was another one of those players that was at the right place, right time, right decision that really helped us in the end.
