Western Bulldogs AFLW recruit Belinda Smith is attacking this pre-season as a fresh opportunity at her new home.

Smith landed in Melbourne earlier this week and joined her new team-mates for the first week of pre-season training at VU Whitten Oval.

The 23-year-old signed as a free agent earlier this year after two seasons with Fremantle, where she played predominately in defence.  She made seven appearances in the first AFLW season, followed by five in 2018.

Smith told westernbulldogs.com.au that she’s looking forward to kick-starting her pre-season in a new environment.

“It’s good to come over to Melbourne.  It’s all been good so far.  I’m really excited,” Smith said.

“(The move) has definitely pushed me into pre-season, to work harder because I don’t really know what I’m coming into.  I’m just excited really to get in, get my hands on the footy and have a kick.”

Smith played predominantly in defence throughout her time at Fremantle, but also has the ability to swing forward.  She booted 14 goals in seven games for East Fremantle during this year’s WAWFL season.

“I’ll do whatever the team needs me to do.  I definitely bring a bit of run and carry, so hopefully I can get out and do a little bit of that.”
