The Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) has announced that Western Bulldogs board member and eminent businesswoman Dr Susan Alberti AO HonLLD will be sponsoring the VWFL for the remainder of the 2008 season.

The much needed sponsorship will greatly assist with the development of the league and provide the opportunity to implement much needed infrastructure.

The Victorian Women’s Football League has not had a major sponsor since the 2004 season. This generosity comes at a crucial time for the VWFL; the volunteer organisation was struggling to meet the demands of the competition, it now will have a chance to improve and progress the competition to the next era.

The VWFL has experienced phenomenal growth; the competition has increased by 371% from a seven-team competition in 2000 to a twenty-six-team competition in 2008. Under lying the competition is a thirty four-team Youth Girls junior competition facilitated by AFL Victoria. The continual growth further cements that Australian Rules football is a legitimate sporting choice for girls and women across Victoria.

Dr Alberti the Managing Director of Dansu Group has always had a love of football. She has a very strong love of the Western Bulldogs and is a board member and has contributed to the Club and game in many ways. Further to this Dr Alberti is a strong supporter of the VWFL and believes that women should also have the opportunity to play our great game.

“I am absolutely delighted to support the VWFL.  I trust that with my support we will see the VWFL go from strength to strength.   My congratulations to all concerned at VWFL.  Keep up the great work,” Dr Alberti said.

VWFLPresident Debbie Lee was overwhelmed by the level of support from Dr Alberti.

"Her generosity will accelerate the long-term plans for the VWFL. Contributions such as this one will go a long way towards achieving the level of resourcing required to move the sport forward. We sincerely thank Dr Alberti for her support and look forward to working with her to further develop and enhance the VWFL.”
