The Daughters of the West program will make its way to the Wimmera in 2020.
After a successful 2019 edition, where more than 500 women took part in the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation program across seven councils in Melbourne and Victoria’s west, it will now head to Horsham in early 2020.
The women’s health and wellbeing program has been operating since 2017.
Daughters of the West provides women with a safe and welcoming women's only environment where participants are given the opportunity to learn about women’s health, meet other local women and get active.
More than 1200 women have benefitted from Daughters of the West over the past three years.
In Horsham, the 10-week program will commence in February 2020, with two-hour sessions taking place on Thursday mornings at the YMCA.
Each session includes an hour of health education with a different guest speaker covering a range of topics including nutrition, mental health, cancer screening, alcohol, gender equity and more. Following the education is an hour of fun, group based physical activity run by YMCA staff.
All women aged 18 and over are welcome to register to express their interest here:
The program will be run in partnership with Wimmera Primary Care Partnership, Horsham Rural City Council and other local organisations, with philanthropic funding from the John T Reid Charitable Trust and the Geoff and Helen Handbury Foundation, and major partner WorkSafe also helping to make it possible.
