'The year is definitely not over for us' : Monfries
Footscray co-captain Angus Monfries previews this weekend's must win clash against Port Melbourne.
With a finals berth still in reach, Footscray Bulldogs co-captain Angus Monfries is looking forward to this Saturday’s home game against Port Melbourne at VU Whitten Oval.
Falling out of the top eight based on percentage, the Bulldogs will need to secure a victory over Port Melbourne this Saturday to give themselves a chance to compete in this year’s finals series.
With the VFL ladder looking tight, the ‘Scray’s finals chances may hang in the hands of the Northern Blues, who are set to take on the eighth placed Bombers this Saturday afternoon at Windy Hill. A Bulldogs win and an Essendon loss would potentially lock the ‘Scray into eighth position, with Port Melbourne looking likely to finish in seventh place.
Earlier this week, Monfries told VFL Rewind that the group are feeling positive and excited ahead of this Saturday’s crucial clash.
“Obviously the year is definitely not over for us, we’re still looking forward to (this Saturday), we have to come at them with all guns blazing and bring our best footy,” Monfries said.
“We’re going to bring as much as we can to get the job done.”
Arriving at the Club at the end of the 2017 season, Monfries has taken on both the VFL captaincy and a development coach role at VU Whitten Oval.
“I’ve really enjoyed the coaching side of this year too,” Monfries told VFL Rewind on Monday evening.
“Working with the younger players has been really rewarding in terms of watching their growth and development, so I’ve really enjoyed the year.”
The Footscray Bulldogs will take on Port Melbourne in their final game of the 2018 PJVFL season, this Saturday at VU Whitten Oval from 11am.
