The Western Bulldogs are delighted to announce Sam Power’s full-time appointment to the role of Executive Manager - Men’s Football.
Power has spent recent months acting in a similar role following the departure of Chris Grant, leading the men’s football program in an interim capacity since late last year.
The 41-year-old has headed up the Club’s list management and recruiting department since 2018, overseeing strategy, TPP management, player contracts and recruiting at Mission Whitten Oval.
Previous to the Bulldogs, Power undertook a number of roles at Carlton in football operations and as Company Secretary, arriving from Clayton Utz where he practiced law.
As a player, Power spent eight seasons in the AFL system, playing 84 games for the Western Bulldogs and 39 for North Melbourne.
Power will sit on the Club’s executive team and oversee all aspects of the men’s football program, while continuing to have an active role in contracts, TPP and the Club’s list strategy.
Following his successful elevation last year, Matt Egan will remain as General Manager of Football Operations, responsible for day-to-day operational, coaching and performance aspects of the program, assisting Power in other areas as required.
“Sam has excelled in leading the men’s football program during this interim period with his trademark measured, thorough and diligent approach coming to the fore,” Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains said.
“Having been involved in the AFL industry in many different capacities over numerous years, Sam has the requisite skills and experience to strongly lead our men’s football program in its pursuit of sustained success.
“We are also blessed to have many wonderful people with extensive experience across all areas of our program and with Sam’s leadership qualities and already strong relationships, it will be a seamless transition.“
Power was thrilled to step into the role on a full-time basis.
“I’m excited to step into the role and continue to work with our amazing and talented people at the Western Bulldogs,” Power said.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity and extremely thankful for the support and guidance I’ve had from a number of people over the last seven years at the football club.”
“Our football program is really well placed to succeed over the coming years through our experienced staff and driven playing group.
“With just under a month until Round 1, our players and staff couldn’t be more excited for the season to begin at Marvel Stadium against the Kangaroos after a challenging but highly successful pre-season program.”
Power’s permanent appointment will take effect immediately.
