Ahead of Lizzy Georgostathis’ 50th match this Saturday, we take a closer look at the defining moments of her career to date.

Drafted: Pick 9, 2019

Georgostathis was one of four first-round picks to land at the Dogs in 2019, taken with Pick 9. A familiar face in the West, she played for VU Western Spurs and Western Jets in her underage years. She told the Star Weekly this week: “It’s so exciting. It’s taken me about five years to get there, but it is pretty cool that every game has been with the Bulldogs. It’s a really good environment and I’m absolutely happy that I’ve played my 49 games so far at the Bulldogs.”

First game: Round 1, 2020

Georgostathis joined in the action immediately, being selected to debut in the opening round of the 2020 season. She finished with eight disposals and three tackles as a forward-midfielder in a 25-point win over the Saints. Playing every possible game that year, Georgostathis would ultimately string together 25 consecutive games across her first three seasons.

First goal: Round 3, 2020

Georgostathis booted her maiden AFLW goal in Round 3, 2020 against Carlton in Pride Round at Whitten Oval. Her second-term major reduced the margin to just four points at the main change, before the Blues ran away with it in the second half. She recorded eight disposals and two marks.

Awards: Second place, Bulldogs’ Best and Fairest 2023

A move to defence ahead of the 2023 season paid dividends for Georgostathis, who claimed second place in the Bulldogs’ Best and Fairest award that season. Jumping from equal-14th the year prior, she polled 58 votes in the 2023 count to finish on the podium. The 22-year-old played every match of the 2023 campaign in defence, averaging 17.2 disposals, 3.8 tackles and four marks. She was also named the Most Improved Player (2023), and has previously won the Best Young Player Award (2022).
