Western Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains has announced plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Club's entry into elite competition next year.

As part of his address at the Charles Sutton Medal ceremony, Bains unveiled a commemorative logo which will replace the Club’s existing one in 2025.

Bringing together designs across the Club's history, it will feature on AFL and AFLW playing guernseys and licensed products throughout next year.

Footscray gained entry to the Victorian Football League after winning a 'Championship of Victoria' match against VFL premiers Essendon in 1924, playing its first VFL game against Fitzroy on 2 May 1925.

A flag presented after that 1924 win over Essendon has been restored and is now displayed in the lobby of the recently refurbished Mission Whitten Oval, described by Bains as "a daily visual reminder of how far this Club has come".

"Having seen first-hand the emotional responses of recently retired players touring our new facilities, one can't help but imagine what it would be like to take our 1924 players through what we have built," Bains said.

"So much would be unfathomable, but we could guarantee them that while it looks different these days, our location and who we are has not changed - we remain in the heart of the West geographically and spiritually."

Bains said he looked forward to the entire Club being united in the upgraded venue for the first time next year as it embarked on a new century at the highest level of the sport.

"We are fiercely proud of our past and it shapes us today, but we are not bound to it," Bains said.

CEO Ameet Bains speaks at the 2024 Charles Sutton Medal.

"We hope that over the next century we successfully complete the journey we are well advanced upon - from having once been the perennial underdog to being an enduring competition powerhouse in all that we do.

"Whether it’s 1924, 2024 or 100 years from now our Club will continue to strive to inspire you all to feel a genuine sense of belonging and pride in being an integral part of our Bulldogs family."
