Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge says his side has a clear focus heading into tomorrow afternoon’s clash against Port Adelaide.

The Bulldogs will be without Cody Weightman and Liam Jones for the trip to Adelaide however, with both expressing soreness at training on Thursday.

“They haven’t come up (well) – we gave them a bit of a chance at training yesterday,” Beveridge told media on Friday.

“Cody (has some) groin soreness and Jonesy just has a little bit of knee soreness.

“We’re not being too conservative, but hopefully they get over them pretty quickly. We’ll see how we go for availability next week.”

Despite the outs, Beveridge said there was peace of mind that other players can step up to fill the voids.

“It gives us some peace of mind that there’s still some flexibility (in defence) for us,” he said.

“(Rory) can still go forward and play in the ruck if we need that in-game, or even in other weeks.

“Him being able to do what he did last week was really important for him and the football club, really. It provides us with something extra to think about.

“With Liam going out this week, it goes without saying that Rory will play the same role or even closer to goal than (he did) last week.”

It was a similar sentiment to replacing Weightman up forward.

“No-one is irreplaceable...it doesn’t matter who kicks them, you’ve got to share it around a little bit,” Beveridge said.

“Ultimately a telling approach to what we do is to have a really strong spread of scoring ability. We’ll be looking for that on Saturday.”

While Port Adelaide has been under some heat in recent weeks, Beveridge said the focus is solely on his own team.

“We really try not to think about (Port) too much at all. We’re trying to push out the boundaries for us – a significant part of that is to really hone in on our own expectations and what we want to achieve,” he said.

“Whatever they’re facing as far as tensions over there – we’ve just got to narrow our focus into our own domain.

“We can’t be sympathetic. We’re on a journey of trying to express ourselves and achieve something week-to-week. We’ve kept a laser-focus on (us) in-house as much as anything.

“We weren’t quite at our best last week, so we’ve got to push the envelope a bit on the pitch tomorrow.”
