The Footscray Bulldogs remain undefeated in 2024, following an epic 31-point triumph against Richmond at the Swinburne Centre on Mother’s Day afternoon.

The battle was fierce, with relentless contests and dramatic momentum swings keeping spectators on edge in the 17.14 (116) to 13.7 (85) showdown.

The final scoreboard didn't reflect the intensity of the match, as dominance shifted between quarters. Richmond started strong, notching up three consecutive goals, ending the opening quarter ahead by 11 points.

However, the ‘Scray surged back in the second quarter, with Charlie Clarke, Ryley Sanders, Buku Khamis and Arthur Jones combining for six straight goals in just 15 minutes.

The hosts managed to add two of their own before half-time to close the gap once again, but the Dogs held onto a nine-point lead.

As the third quarter commenced, the ‘Scray continued their dominance, winning the majority of uncontested possession but Richmond fought back fiercely, taking the lead for a brief moment by a mere solitary point.

But in a thrilling turn of events, Khamis fired back with two consecutive goals, setting the stage for the ‘Scray to enter the final term with an eight-point lead.

Exhausted but determined, both teams battled fiercely in the final quarter.

However, it was the undefeated ‘Scray whose professionalism was on full display, holding off Richmond from mounting a comeback.

Sanders was crowned best on ground with a phenomenal performance, tallying 42 disposals, 12 clearances and eight tackles.

Khamis proved influential with four crucial goals, 11 disposals and four tackles, while Rory Lobb impressed with four goals, 22 disposals, 28 hit-outs and nine marks.

With this stellar win, the Footscray Bulldogs maintain their flawless record with six straight victories, reclaiming their spot at the top of the Smithy's VFL ladder.

Their sights are set on continuing this momentum when they face GWS in Sydney on Saturday.
