Western Bulldogs President Kylie Watson-Wheeler says there is no better time to be around the club than now.

Joining Andy Maher and Andrew Gaze on SEN as part of the Bulldogs Blitz, Watson-Wheeler said with the redevelopment nearing completion, both programs returning to Mission Whitten Oval and the 2024 AFL season just around the corner, there is a lot of positivity within the four walls.

“It’s pretty early for predictions that's for sure, but we're feeling optimistic at the club, and up and about,” she said.

“The energy in the club is fantastic - the playing group, the coaching group, the Football Department as a whole. It's a pretty exciting time at the Western Bulldogs.

“As far as everything (in the redevelopment) goes behind the scenes for the playing groups, both our men and our women, there is a pretty extraordinary space for them.

“Some of the previous players such as Luke Darcy and the like, walk through there and they've just said ‘what on Earth - these guys, they're so lucky.’

“It's pretty special and pretty extraordinary - I know that the guys are feeling really good.”

Watson-Wheeler said remaining in the west, particularly at Mission Whitten Oval, was not to be taken for granted either.

“Whitten Oval is our home and the West is our heartland,’ Watson-Wheeler said.

“It sits there right in the middle of our heartland.

“We're very connected to our community. You would be aware of everything that we do in relation to the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, so our connection to the West is really very authentic.

“There's nothing more special than an AFLW game day for everybody to be around the ground, you know, sitting up on the hill on their picnic blankets, engaged, feeling part of the community. We're very lucky.”

The President also thanked all members for their continued support, and encouraged those yet to sign up to do so when possible.

“I mean everything comes down to what happens on that scoreboard for sure, and you live and die by that as a club and everyone in the club does as well - it's a very high-pressure environment from that perspective," Watson-Wheeler said.

"One of the things that we're really proud of is certainly our ability to grow our membership base. We've hit 40,000 members earlier than we've ever had in a season. We're aiming for 60,000.

“Being a relatively small club, and a club that has come from a non-affluent background, to be able to continue to build that fan base is really important.

“To bring our members into our world is super. It’s a huge priority for us.”
